LITTLE EMPRESS

The Berkshire Sow was immortalised by P.G. Wodehouse in his Blandings Castle series of books. Berkshires were also the inspiration for Beatrix Potter’s Pigling Band. Pigling wore a blue waistcoat and ran away to freedom with ‘a little black Berkshire’.

I wished to draw attention to the plight of these special animals by sculpting them at a smaller scale, and using colour as a way of making people look and think about them. Now on the ‘Endangered’ list with the Rare Breeds Survival Trust, they deserve attention.
