Nelson Mandela
Nelson Mandela had strong links with Glasgow, whose citizens famously supported the campaign to secure his release from imprisonment on Robben Island.
In 2014, Deirdre Nicholls won a competitive commission to create a bronze bust of Mandela for Glasgow City Council. Modelled at ten percent larger than life, the sculpture now occupies a quiet, contemplative position at the entrance to Glasgow City Chambers.
Here is a short film documenting the modelling and casting process of the bronze bust of Nelson Mandela commissioned by Glasgow City Council. https://vimeo.com/113485442
